Hello and welcome to Legal Innovators New York, the first time this landmark conference at the intersection of legal technology and the business of law, has taken place at the heart of the largest legal market in the world. 

 

It will also be across two days: Law Firm Day and also Inhouse Day - with both days hosted in Midtown New York in the offices of Latham & Watkins. 

 

So, what is this year’s conference in New York all about? 

 

Fundamentally it’s about moving beyond tests and tentative trials of legalAI and really starting to get value from it. It’s the era of getting real about legal AI. 

 

Many law firms are still in just in the testing phase, but what Legal Innovators will focus on is those who are making headway and have plenty to share about this journey towards a legal sector that is not just using AI as an assistant, but where AI is part and parcel of nearly every major workflow inside a law firm or an in-house team - and within ALSPs as well. 

 

Real change is hard. AI upends the way many lawyers think about work, it changes how we leverage data, it increases enormously what one lawyer can do. 

 

We are still very much working our way through what it all means. So, this year, the theme is really all about: What have we learned? And where are we heading next? 

 

As to where next? There is plenty to explore: agentic AI is just starting to see adoption and that will only grow, meanwhile the legal tech market itself is evolving rapidly with new startups and deals between established players. 

 

Inhouse teams seem to be as keen on using AI as law firms, so too ALSPs, and that is changing the dynamic as well.

 

Overall, we are in the real heart of the change process now.
